About Precious Cargo Education

Precious Cargo Montessori Child Care and Early Learning Centres have been operating since 2006 and have become a household name in South Australia; renowned for their beautiful, purpose-built centres, richly resourced environments and high quality educational programs and care.

The founder, Cheryl Shigrov, began teaching in early education over 20 years ago when she had two young sons and fell in love with the Montessori Method. Her passion for realising the potential in children led to the wonderful milestone; the creation and opening of “Precious Cargo”.

Today the company is thriving with 8 centres in South Australia and 1 in Melbourne. Precious Cargo centres are bright and well maintained with devoted staff who enthusiastically implement the company vision of “realise the potential in each and every child by passionately delivering high quality Montessori early education and care”.

Cheryl continues to lead the company with the same passion and hands-on approach as she now has four children, her youngest born in 2018.

Whilst each centre has a level of uniqueness, you can be reassured that the quality educational program and environment are consistent in all of the centres as well as the services offered such as music & movement classes, cooking lessons in the children’s kitchen, and the amazing food the chef offers the children daily which includes dinner. They are the only centre/company that offers dinner!

At Precious Cargo Blackwood we take pride that our environment and sustainability are a big aspect of our curriculum by involving children in looking after our class pets, weeding and watering the vegie gardens, recycling, composting and using bokashi bins. Children take on the roles of ‘water warrior’ and ‘sustainability officer’.

Our diverse staff team create a calm and welcoming environment and treat all children as equals. We implement experiences from educator’s and children’s specific home cultural customs, celebrations and languages.

We have strong community connections by involving the Country Fire Service in our fire action plan and visits to the centre as well as our links with the Indigenous community and excursions to local kindergartens and schools.

We provide individual learning through observations and planned activities based on the child’s interest and developmental needs which is recorded in Learning Portfolios as a personal keepsake of their early years, which is something to treasure.

Fees

The following fee structure applies at our centre:

• Under 3yrs is $116 per day (6.30am-6.00pm)
• Over 3yrs is $114 per day (6.30am-6.00pm)
• ELC is $104.50 per day (8.30am-4.00pm)
